HOPE is designed to intervene when a person or family faces a healthcare need that they are unable to address on their own.
This program intervenes through different forms: payment of national health insurance (Mutuelle de Santé), for which Rwanda provides for an annual contribution, purchase of prescribed medicines or, in the most serious and exceptional cases, through a specific hospital healthcare intervention.
Every intervention starts from a concrete healthcare need and the situation of the person or family who needs support.
The situation is assessed to understand what type of healthcare intervention is necessary and appropriate.
Support is directed directly towards the identified healthcare need, through payment of the required expense or service.
HOPE is designed to reduce or remove an economic barrier that prevents a person or family from accessing healthcare, necessary medicines or health coverage.
Payment of the Mutuelle de Santé contribution for a family that is unable to cover the cost, ensuring access to the healthcare coverage provided.
Payment for prescribed medicines when the portion remaining to be paid by the family represents an obstacle to purchasing the necessary treatment.
Payment of a significant and exceptional healthcare expense, such as an operation, an expensive treatment or hospitalisation that the family is unable to afford.
A request for HOPE support is submitted, indicating the healthcare need.
The situation and the necessary documentation are reviewed.
The type of intervention is identified and the approved support is determined.
Whenever possible, payment is made directly to the facility, pharmacy or service provider.
A healthcare intervention can also become an opportunity to learn more about a family’s situation. When HOPE supports a family with the payment of Mutuelle de Santé, this contact may allow La Levure to identify children living in a difficult situation who need educational support.
These children can be supported through EDUKIT , to respond to concrete school-related needs, or, when the situation requires ongoing support, through HELP .
In this way, healthcare support can also become the beginning of a broader journey: from responding to an immediate need to the possibility of accompanying the child over time.
